The Mattatuck Museum presents, “The Valley Girls,” September 10 – November 12, 2017, with a special Reception, September 10th 1pm -3 pm.
Once a Valley girl, always a Valley girl, Mally DeSomma, Judith Gould Secco and June Pierpont Webster were all born and raised in the Naugatuck River Valley. From an early age, all three knew that they wanted to be that elusive, creative person who would make her mark interpreting and celebrating the world around them, an artist. Nurtured by their families, friends and members of their communities they each achieved their artistic ambitions and stretched to attain new goals. Now they take great pleasure in using their talents to teach, encourage and mentor other aspiring artists throughout the region. While their interests have varied, all three artists recognize that their early beginnings of life in the Naugatuck River Valley have left an indelible mark on their work. Their work seen here will share nostalgia for the simpler days of their youth, memories of when towns up and down the Valley were booming with industry, and a celebration of the Valley’s natural beauty that has withstood time. The Valley is the past and the present and stretches to create new memories in the future. This exhibition is a collaboration with Artsplace of Cheshire, Ct. |
